Literally translated to mean rose-flavoured plum, gulab jamun is an extremely popular Indian sweet made by soaking fried balls of chenna in syrup. A pinch of ground cardamom can be added to the dough for extra flavour.
Roll the gulab jamun into smooth balls. When they have fried to a deep golden brown, add them to the flavoured sugar syrup.
