Allegra McEvedy MBE was born in 1970 and raised in Hammersmith, London. In 1991, she completed her chef's training at Cordon Bleu in London before going on to work at Green’s, The Belvedere in Holland Park, Alfred’s, and The River Café. She got her first Head Chef position at Tom Conran’s The Cow, in Notting Hill, at the age of 24. During a spell in the USA, Allegra worked at Rubicon and Jardinière in San Francisco, and ran the kitchen at Robert De Niro’s New York restaurant Tribeca Grill. In 2003 she launched the award winning, healthy fast-food restaurant group, Leon. Allegra has presented programmes for the BBC and the Good Food Channel. She has had columns in the Guardian and the Evening Standard, and has alsowritten has written six books, including Economy Gastronomy. Allegra is patron of the Fairtrade Foundation (fairtrade.org.uk). She lives in Shepherd's Bush, London, with her daughter Delilah.
