To celebrate the addition of Cooking Price-wise by Vincent Price to ckbk’s cookbook collection, we are pleased to offer a copy of the newly released Blu-ray edition of the associated TV series as the prize in our latest recipe photo competition.
Vincent Price is best remembered as the silver screen’s master of the macabre, bringing his unmistakable voice and presence to horror classics including House of Wax, The Masque of the Red Death, and The Abominable Dr. Phibes. But beyond the sinister characters and chilling performances, Price had a less-known but equally passionate love for food and cooking.
The new Blu-ray release of the Cooking Price-wise TV series
Throughout his life, Price was a dedicated gourmand. Together with his wife Mary, he authored several notable cookbooks, and in the 1970s he brought his culinary enthusiasm to the small screen as host of the British television series Cooking Price-Wise, in which he introduced viewers to sophisticated yet accessible international dishes, each episode peppered with his trademark wit and theatrical flair.
Price’s dual identity as a horror icon and culinary connoisseur has led to enduring cult status. There is a Cooking with Vincent Price YouTube Channel dedicated to recreating his dishes, and numerous fan sites and Facebook groups celebrate his legacy.
His cookbooks included European dishes ranging from Coq au Vin to Cutlets Reformé, and also his own take on American classics like American Ice Box Cake and Saturday Morning Popovers. To celebrate this unique blend of horror and haute cuisine, ckbk is giving you the chance to win a copy of the Cooking Price-Wise on Blu-ray, newly released in November 2024 by the British Film Institute.
