Have you ever hesitated to try a recipe because it didn’t have a photo? You’re not alone! A great image can make all the difference, offering inspiration and confidence in the kitchen. Now, you can help fill the gaps and bring classic and modern cookbooks to life by sharing your own photos – and win a great prize!
Many beloved cookbooks, especially older classics, were published before color printing became standard. In other cases, the author chose to focus on words without the distraction of photography. Even in modern cookbooks, there is rarely space to include a photo of every dish. That means that, while tens of thousands of recipes on ckbk do have an attractive photo, many others do not yet have an image to showcase their delicious potential. That’s where you come in!
By posting a review with a photo for any recipe on ckbk that currently lacks one, you’ll be helping fellow cooks to see what’s possible – and you might just win a one-year ckbk gift subscription and a hardback edition of ckbk’s first original cookbook, Magrets & Mushrooms.
Examples of iconic cookbooks without photos
Le Guide Culinaire – Auguste Escoffier
Hows and Whys of French Cooking – Alma Lach
The Cuisine of Hungary – George Lang
Honey from a Weed – Patience Gray
Even modern classics leave some recipes unseen…
The Best Recipes in the World by Mark Bittman (no photos)
660 Curries by Raghavan Iyer (no photos)
Mowgli Street Food by Nisha Katona (115 recipes, but only 55 have photos)
Thanks to a new feature, ckbk can now select the best ‘ckbk review’ photos to appear on search results, and at the top of the recipe concerned. A ‘ckbk review’ photo is clearly indicated by the ckbk logo, with a credit to the user who uploaded it being displayed when you click to enlarge the photo.
1️⃣ Cook a recipe from ckbk that doesn’t yet have a photo.
2️⃣ Snap a mouthwatering picture of your creation.
3️⃣ Post your photo and a short review on ckbk before April 30, 2025.
4️⃣ If your photo is selected, it will be featured with full credit and you could win the prize! 🎉
We’d love to see photos for any recipe which doesn’t yet have one. But if the recipe you photograph is from Cooking Price-wise by the legendary actor Vincent Price, you’ll also be entered for the chance to win a Blu-ray of the Cooking Price-wise TV series. Now that’s what we call a double feature! 🎬📖
