A skye summer’s day comes to life around 4 o’clock in the morning. Seabirds chorus another mother-of-pearl dawn. All is still. The grey heron perches on one leg, statuesque, long beak pointing directly into the seaweed shallows of the loch outside my window.
I am often awake early, although I am not always ready to leap out of bed. But every time I am up in time to catch the dawn, I wish I did so every day. It is the best time to spend alone, collecting thoughts, arranging one’s mind. I am a ‘list’ person and always have a notebook and pencil by my side.
