First we grow, then we eat. Well, not quite. The life of a gardener is not about instant gratification. It’s about the promise of abundance and sustenance that a single seed can bring. It is about the hard work, with care and appreciation for nature and all she has to offer. Setting the right intentions before the growing season even begins helps guide us all the way to the harvest.
My goal is to share recipes that pair homegrown and seasonal produce with pantry staples. I have included primers on drying, fermenting, pickling, and freezing your harvests, and corresponding recipes to help you enjoy the growing season’s bounty well into the winter months. But not everything here is homegrown. It doesn’t have to be. No matter where you live, there’s probably a farm stand or farmers’ market. Support local farmers when you can. Get to know them personally. Ask questions. Buy their produce.
