The fishing ports of Brittany include some of the most attractive in Europe. I have a particular liking for Douarnanez and the wild Pointe du Raz to which it leads. But Concarneau, with its ‘ville close’ and its excellent fishery museum, and Quimper offer rival charms; and Lorient, on a larger scale, is impressive. The seafood throughout Brittany is of a quality which reflects the long traditions of fishing which embellish Breton history; and the Bretons have made one special contribution to seafood cookery in the form of their crêpes or galettes aux fruits de mer, a sort of northern equivalent to the seafood pizza of Naples.
