In 1977, the year of Queen Elizabeth II’s Silver Jubilee, my dad created a quick and easy feast for our neighbours, to share our food with them all. It was hard to settle, as we were the first Asians who lived on our street. We often felt a little isolated and dad said that if we shared food, it would break the ice.

For as long as I can remember, sharing plates of food has been a huge part of my life. During my professional career I have often taken my food to where I have worked, to share with colleagues.
