Oma Sieghilde had a gift for transforming the simplest ingredients into some of the tastiest meals—often with tons of elbow grease and a little help from my sister and me. From Klösschen to Zwiebelkuchen, each dish is filled with unique memories that I hope to never forget. The biggest challenge in recreating her meals was that she didn’t really use recipes. Meaning I got to spend lots of time on the phone with her when she was still around. And then even more time in my kitchen testing. Oma never traveled by air in her lifetime, but I hope her spirit will shine in your kitchen wherever you are, as you cook and bake her beloved recipes.
