Frühburgunder, Blauer, increasingly highly regarded, small-berried mutation of Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir) which ripens a good two weeks before it. By 2012, total German plantings had grown to 262 ha/647 acres, in southern Germany, particularly on the red sandstone soils around Miltenberg and, historically, Bürgstadt in franken. Low-yielding examples can taste of black fruits.
