Ñame is a tuber, like yuca, but with a different taste. The size is a lot like yuca but some varieties have a rougher skin and some are smoother. Even though it is often translated as “yam,” it is not the same. You must ask for it as ñame (“nyahmay”) in Latin American and specialty supermarkets.
