CULTIVATION The wild strawberry is a hardy, evergreen perennial with mid-green, toothed, three-lobed leaves and small, white and yellow-centred flowers from early spring, producing sweet-tasting, scented, red fruits from early summer. Reaching a height of 15 cm (6in), it prefers well-drained, peaty soil and a sheltered position in light shade. Propagate it by sowing seeds or dividing the plant in spring or late summer, planting them 30cm (1ft) apart. A gorgeous garden, border, edging, container and conservatory herb.
