My paternal grandmother never ate meat for as long as I knew her, yet every time I visited, she would make a chicken curry because she knew I liked it so much. As a housewife in the days before refrigeration, my grandma would go to the market every day and then spend hours in the kitchen. Sadly, I never got to cook with her and she never wrote any of her recipes down. But I still hold the memory of that flavor and still love curry, though it’s only with veggies for me these days!
