Shishito peppers have become very popular in recent years, I think because they are one of the basic items at izakaya restaurants (Japanese tapas bars with charcoal grills). This is fun to serve—while most shishito peppers aren’t hot, some, perhaps one out of ten, are very spicy. Jalapeño spicy! You can’t tell by looking at them, so you take the risk when eating.
