Often found growing between almond trees in southern Palestine, hamasees is also know as humayda, or “the sour weed.” Foragers in North America or Europe may know it as sheep’s sorrel or field sorrel, and will find it growing throughout late fall and early spring. If unavailable, common garden sorrel leaves works just as well.
