I remember the Indian rojak man. At around half past three in the afternoon he arrives carrying two large baskets, with two tiers in each basket, both suspended from a pole. One basket contains all the necessary condiments to make the rojak and the other is filled with all the tempting nonya keub or sweet and savoury snacks. Having finished lunch at two, my father enjoys a nibble at this time of the day. The child who is helping to mind the shop with him is the lucky one—he or she will usua
