Wuzetka is a double-tiered midcentury creation named after, of all things, the WZ (Wschód-Zachód, or East-West) highway that runs through Warsaw. The highway was built shortly after the war and, as legend has it, a cukiernia along the new route invented the cake. As such, wuzetka is a signature Warsaw bake but also widespread throughout the country.
