Ramadan Express

by Lina Saad

from the publisher

Written to accompany the lived rhythm of the holy month, Ramadan Express is both a practical kitchen companion and a celebration of the food traditions that surround Ramadan. During this sacred period, Muslims fast from dawn until sunset, gathering each evening to break the fast at iftar, a moment defined as much by generosity, reflection and family as by the food itself.

Lina Saad offers a collection of approachable, carefully chosen recipes designed to nourish and simplify daily cooking throughout the month, from light soups and vibrant salads to sustaining main dishes, traditional sweets and refreshing drinks. Alongside the recipes, she shares thoughtful guidance on planning ahead, organising suhoor meals before dawn, preparing for guests, and managing the demands of cooking while fasting.

Rooted in Lina’s Lebanese heritage and shaped by her international culinary journey, the book reflects the diversity of contemporary Muslim home cooking while remaining firmly grounded in the spirit of hospitality that defines Ramadan tables everywhere.

More than a seasonal cookbook, Ramadan Express opens a window onto the culinary culture of Ramadan for all readers, whether observing the fast themselves or simply seeking generous, flavourful dishes meant to be shared.

Behind the Cookbook: Ramadan Express—Memory, Migration and the Modern Ramadan Table

Lebanese cook Lina Saad’s first cookbook, Land of White, which featured the cooking of her homeland, won a World Gourmand Cookbook award. Her second cookbook, Ramadan Express, has just been added to ckbk. Around the world, starting on Tuesday 17th February, Muslims will observe a fast during daylight hours to mark the holy month of Ramadan. In this feature, Lina tells of her own personal experience of Ramadan, and how the dishes she brings together in Ramadan Express, eaten either in the evening after the fast breaks, or in the early morning before it begins, are central to the ritual of Ramadan for her family.
