Chef Brian Chen, more affectionately known as Abang Brian in Malaysia, pursued a professional career in finance which defined success for his Southern Malaysian family. He completed his studies in France with a Chartered Accountancy programme while working in the internal audit department of the largest oil and gas conglomerate in Malaysia. However, his life changed following his father’s cancer diagnosis and Chen took it upon himself to prepare food that suited his father’s new specific dietary needs. This newly discovered passion for food also drove him into the kitchens of MasterChef Malaysia which propelled him into both the culinary and entertainment industry in Malaysia. To further build on his skills, he completed both Diplôme de Cuisine and Pâtisserie at Le Cordon Bleu in Malaysia. Chen has numerous cooking TV and radio shows and has written 7 cookbooks to date, several of which have received recognition from the prestigious Gourmand Cookbook Awards. He has also opened a cooking school for kids called Young Chefs Academy in Malaysia which aims to develop young children using food and cooking with special emphasis on health.
